Saudi Arabia
Untamed beaches, craggy mountains and golden dunes as far as the eye can see make up this vast kingdom that covers most of the Arabian Peninsula. Its splendid natural beauty, though diverse, has a common desert theme. The largest sand desert in the world, the Rub’ al Khali, silently lies within Saudi Arabia’s borders and is known as The Empty Quarter. The arid mountains to its west offer a feeling of tranquillity and a stunning view of the endless rolling dunes. And though teeming with colourful marine life, the Red Sea comes ashore to miles and miles of pristine sandy beaches.
Celebrated for its culture and symbolism, Saudi Arabia is also known as the birthplace of Islam and home to the religion’s two most sacred mosques. The large yearly pilgrimage to Mecca draws masses to the country, who then enjoy travelling to the neighbouring city of Jeddah, to watch the sea light up with colourful boats bobbing along the waves, or head to the modern capital of Riyadh and marvel at the gleaming skyscrapers.
